Here With You – Original Song

Here With You Original Song

There is a poem in A Letter to Last Year about a room. (Double points if you know which poem I’m referring to!)

Like every other aspect of that book, I was writing about something real. It was a real room.

A box in Russia with giant windows that washed the naked mattress in grey sunlight. An extra bedroom I used to store my clothes and to gather a semblance of sanity. A temporary home for a couple of girls who were trying really hard to be happy.

It was a room where I used to sit with my guitar and a notepad, and where I would strum to myself instead of studying.

I’ve always enjoyed writing songs. Lyrics and music are a beautiful way to share feelings that words alone can’t carry. So I want to share with you the lyrics to a song I wrote in that room, at a time when I needed God to cut through the wall of fog that surrounded me, and to envelop me in His love.

Here With You

Original song by Kim Wilkes

I can’t hear

through the thunder of the

inner fear,

and I wonder how I’ll

ever find you.

How will I ever find you?

Taken back

to the moments that were

filled with black,

when I cried out trying

to hear your voice.

Why can’t I hear your voice now?

I’m stuck in the dark, but I’m

crying out

to reach the heavens above.

Been missing the mark, but I’m

trying now

to feel your love.

I heard the story of a girl

who used to cry.

You could see the demons in her head

straight through her eyes.

But she wears a halo on her head,

because she tries

to reach to the Maker of the earth,

the sea, and skies.

He came to her and sang

His lullaby.

Your faith has filled your holes.

This storm can’t abide you,

nor darkness deride you.

The scars that line your soul

are swallowed in mine,

your debt paid in fine.

Come unto me and find

you’re never alone.

I want to hear your voice.

I want to feel your love.

I want to see your light and your glory,

and sing with the chorus above.

I want to hear your voice.

I want to feel your love.

I want to see your light and your glory,

and sing with the chorus above.

I want to hear your voice.

I’m not so far away.

I want to feel your love.

I’m here with you.

I want to see your light and your glory,

Right here.

and sing with the chorus above.

I want to hear your voice.

I’m not so far away.

I want to feel your love.

I’m here with you.

I want to see your light and your glory,

Right here.

and sing with the chorus above.

I’m not so far away.

I’m here with you.

Right here.
